Welcome to Tarrant Monkton
Tarrant Monkton is a village located in north Dorset. Situated in the Tarrant Valley, the village is situated approximately 6 miles north east of Blandford Forum, approximately 14 miles south east of Shaftesbury, and approximately 20 miles south west of Salisbury. Situated on the banks of the River Tarrant within the Cranborne Chase, the village is also located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The nearest village featured in our areas guides series is Tarrant Hinton situated approx 1.5 miles away.
The 2011 census states that the population of Tarrant Monkton stood at 1,986 people – although this is somewhat inflated considering this figure includes the nearby army camp (Blandford Camp) which is approximately 4 miles away in a south-westerly direction, near Blandford Forum. Tarrant Monkton is only a small village and the figures on StreetCheck (although dated before 2011) state a population of just 123 people and just 47 dwellings (a much better reflection than the 1,986 quoted by the 2011 census).
Tarrant Monkton is home to some extremely picturesque properties – with many thatched cottages located in the village. There is a ford (also known locally as The Splash) running through the village which separates Tarrant Monkton from the nearby village of Tarrant Launceston. The award winning thatched country freehouse pub and restaurant, The Langton Arms can be accessed through the ford, although there is an alternative and slightly longer way around for those without a 4x4 in the winter time!
Unsuprisingly given the size of the village, property for sale in Tarrant Monkton are few and far between and there are no estate agents with offices in the village, however most locals would use a Blandford agent to sell or rent their properties.
