Winterborne Stickland is a rural village situated approximately 4.5 miles West of Blandford Forum and 14.5 miles North East of the county town of Dorchester.

According to the 2011 census the civil parish (including the neighbouring hamlets of Winterborne Clenston & Turnworth) has a population of 653.

The village has many period properties, with many listed buildings, largely concentrated in the centre of the village around North Street & West Street - St Marys church (itself grade I listed) in the centre of the village has parts dating from the 13th century, the tower is believed to date to around 1500.

Like many villages, the village has suffered from the closure of the village shops and post office, the village does however still retain its local pub (The Crown) and a village car repair garage (Kevin's Garage). 

The village primary school closed some years ago, the building is now occupied by a nursery school. The nearest schools for KS1 & KS2 children is the Dunbury Church of England Academy which is split between two sites, one in Winterborne Kingston (KS1) and one in Winterborne Whitechurch (KS2), for older children The Blandford School in Blandford is the nearest.

Looking towards the property market in the village, the village has a typical mix of modern and period housing, the modern development in Stickland is typically in small clusters, Fairmead is a small cluster of local authority housing with generous sized gardens, along West Street is a small number of bungalows overlooking the small (stream) River Winterborne. There is usually a reasonable supply of houses in the village at any one time. There are no estate agents with offices in Winterborne Stickland, most people tend to use agents from Blandford to market their properties.
